When completed this module the students should be able to:

Read and interpret a well log

Interpret the log to discern porosity, water saturation, lithology, hydrocarbons content

Account for the effect of shale, hydrocarbons, unconsolidated formations, pressure in the reservoir Synthesise the interpretation of several logs and produce a consistent interpretation of the reservoir


The course is composed of a theoretical component, reinforced by a component of practice using calculation and analysis exercises to consolidate theoretical concepts learned.


The students in order to receive a certificate document regarding this training in Introduction to Petroleum Engineering must have an average grade higher than 50% in all of the evaluation tests during the period of this formation. The students with Merit with average grades greater than 70% will receive a Distinction Certificate showing the high performance acquired during this training.
